Abstract

Background: This study investigates the role of information systems in enhancing quality assurance and sustaining customer retention in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), grounded in systems theory, change management theory, technology acceptance model, agile development, and user-centered design.

Method: A mixed-method approach was employed, integrating qualitative and quantitative data from surveys, interviews, and case studies of SMEs using information systems for quality assurance. Secondary data from industry reports and academic literature supplemented the analysis.

Findings/Results: SMEs adopt information systems, including decision support systems, process control systems, inventory management, and sales and marketing systems, reported improved quality assurance, enhanced customer satisfaction, and increased operational efficiency. Quality assurance strategies such as benchmarking, quality audits, and business standards significantly contribute to customer retention. Emerging trends include agile and lean quality management, supplier-specific quality standards, and zero-waste strategies.

Implications: Information systems and strategic quality assurance practices enhance SME competitiveness by improving operational efficiency and fostering customer loyalty, supporting long-term sustainability.

Conclusion: The integration of information systems in SMEs strengthens quality assurance processes, drives customer retention, and promotes operational efficiency, contributing to sustainable business growth.

Recommendations: SMEs should invest in modern information systems, adopt agile quality management practices, provide employee training, and embrace continuous learning to enhance competitiveness and ensure long-term sustainability
