Abstract
This study examined the influence of educational initiatives on enhancing library and information services (LIS) for secondary school students in Ifo LGA, Ogun State, Nigeria. Its objectives included assessing how curriculum integration, teacher-librarian collaboration, and policy support impacted LIS development, perceptions of effectiveness, and challenges faced. A descriptive survey methodology was employed, involving a sample of 300 students selected through stratified random sampling from selected secondary schools. Data collection utilized structured questionnaires, which were analyzed using SPSS with descriptive statistics. The findings revealed that educational factors significantly influenced LIS improvement, with curriculum integration and teacher collaboration fostering greater resource utilization and student motivation. Students perceived library services as crucial for academic success; however, they faced challenges such as limited access to current resources, inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, and shortages of qualified staff. The study concluded that strategic investments in resource procurement, infrastructure, and professional development were essential to transforming libraries into vibrant learning hubs. Recommendations emphasized increasing funding for up-to-date materials, providing continuous training for educators and librarians, and upgrading infrastructure to expand access and engagement. The findings underscored the importance of comprehensive educational initiatives in strengthening LIS, thereby promoting literacy, critical thinking, and lifelong learning among secondary school students in Ifo LGA, and contributing to educational development and societal progress in Nigeria.
