Abstract

Background: Collaboration entails working with individuals possessing diverse skill sets to generate something altogether, while team spirit encompasses the qualities, abilities and processes required to labour successfully with others in relation to a shared goal. Career development encompasses a multifaceted amalgamation of psychological, sociological, educational, physical, and economic and chance factors influencing the nature and significance of work throughout an individual's lifespan. This study explores the interplay of collaboration, team spirit and career development among library and information science undergraduates at the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, Nigeria.

Method: The total enumeration sampling technique was used because the population was homogenous within the confined academic environment and was uniform. The research utilised a questionnaire as the primary instrument, and it was administered to two hundred and forty-seven (247) LIS undergraduates at TASUED. The questionnaire featured five sections, and the data collected underwent analysis and interpretation using simple percentages.

Findings/Results: The findings indicated that career development positively impacted undergraduates' work attitudes and fostered favourable student-lecturer connections. Moreover, participants demonstrated high levels of engagement in problem-solving, relationship-building, brainstorming and resource-sharing activities. However, challenges such as difficulty in reaching consensus and technological obstacles in online collaboration were identified.

Conclusion: The importance of lecturers actively adopting collaborative learning as a teaching strategy for undergraduates is eminent

Recommendations: The study emphasised the need for educators to incorporate collaborative learning as a teaching technique
